I doubt it’s any surprise to readers of this blog, but it’s obvious that the most effective political messaging over the past few years has been “unity” and “pragmatism.” 2008 will be no different… Sens. McCain and Obama explicitly base their appeals to voters on the premise that they can reach out both to independent voters who are affiliated with neither party, and to politicians of the opposite party. A precedent for such a governing style recently has been set: Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger

New kind of beetle found! By CBC staff! Staff on the state-owned CBC Newsworld, where, suspiciously like Fox News Channel’s O’Reilly Factor, “The Spin Stops Here”! (-- or is that just on their “Politics” program?) apparently discovered the new creature. They called it the “GREENHOUSE BEETLE”. Most other people, like the folks at the National Post, which features the little bugger on their front page today, call it the Mountain Pine Beetle. Labcoats call it Dendroctonus Ponderosae. Bu

CBC: And now for an honest middle o’ the road perspective… (no—just kidding!) News item: dozens of ducks land in an oil sands “tailings” pond in Alberta which is usually protected by bird-scaring techniques to keep the birds away; and are poisoned, and die. It’s a tragedy. Carey even introduced Winfrey to the actor/rapper who was to marry her on April 30, but the talk show titan didn’t think anything of the magical moment - or of her guest’s new tattoo. She said: “She’d done the tattoo on her back that said `Mrs. Cannon,’ so they were already planning on doing it (getting marrie
